CAIRO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Friday condemned the twin attacks that killed 83 people in southern Iraq.
The attacks, carried out by gunmen and suicide bombers near the city of Nasriyah, also wounded nearly 100 according to local media.
Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Aboul-Gheit stressed solidarity with the Iraqi people and government in the fierce fight to uproot terrorism, the AL statement said.
He hailed the accomplishments and sacrifices of the Iraqi forces for liberating their country completely from the IS militants.
The head of the Arab organization called for comprehensive dialogue among the different components in Iraq to solve the current differences and cut off the route for those seeking to harm the Iraqi national security.
Many blame the current chronic instability, cycle of violence, and the emergence of extremist groups, such as the IS, on the United States that invaded and occupied Iraq in March 2003, under the pretext of seeking to destroy weapons of mass destruction in the country.
The war led to the ouster and eventual execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, but no such weapons have been found.
