LONDON, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- British emergency services are at an explosion incident on Friday morning in a subway station in west London as commuters flee the scene.

The blast left commuters with "facial burns" after a "fireball flew down a carriage," said witnesses.

A number of injuries appeared to have stemmed from a crush of people trying to leave the station.

Commuters are fleeing Parsons Green subway station as emergency services arrive on the scene.

One witness reported seeing "a flash and a bang" in a bag holding a container, which is said to have had wires coming from it, on the packed rush-hour carriage.

The incident created chaos in the area as the subway service was shut down and police stopped people from getting close.

Ambulances are on the scene along with armed police. London fire services also sent fire engines in surrounding areas to Parsons Green station.

London Ambulance Service said that initial priority is to assess the level and nature of injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said that the brigade was called at 8:21 a.m. BST (0721 GMT).
