BANGKOK, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Criminal Court sentenced the bomber responsible for the explosion at Bangkok's Phramongkutklao Hospital to four years in prison, local media reported on Thursday.

According to TV Channel 7, Wattana Pummare, 62, got an eight-year jail term for illegally assembling and possessing explosives and bombing materials. Since he confessed to the prosecutions, the court lessened the jail term to four years.

Wattana, a retired engineer, was found guilty in two cases, namely the hospital bombing and producing explosives at his home in Bangkok.

He is also facing an accusation of attempted murder. A hearing for testimony by prosecution witnesses is scheduled on Oct. 16.

Wattana planted a homemade device in the Phramongkutklao hospital which is popular with soldiers and retired military officers on May 12. The bombing injured more than 20 people.
