COPENHAGEN, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Danish economy is growing strongly at the moment and there is a good chance that this development can continue, the country's central bank said Wednesday.

The gross domestic product (GDP) is now expected to expand from 1.7 percent in 2016 to 2.3 percent in 2017, and a further 1.8 percent and 1.7 percent in 2018 and 2019 respectively, according to a quarterly review by Danmarks Nationalbank.

The figures represent an upward adjustment compared with a March forecast which predicted a 1.6 percent rise for this year, as well as for 2018 and 2019.

"The prospect of continued growth means that the Danish economy is moving further into the upswing," the central bank said, adding that "unlike in the years leading up to the financial crisis, the risk that the economy will overheat is low."

Figures showed that employment had risen continuously since the upswing gained momentum in 2013, and approximately 160,000 people had found work since then.

The bank said there were strong indications that employment would continue to grow in the coming years, but the pace would slow down slightly as labor market pressures increase, especially in the construction sector.
