MANILA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a tropical storm that lashed the Philippines on Tuesday had risen to five, a disaster agency said on Wednesday.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesperson Mina Marasigan also said that six others were still missing.

She said that the massive flooding and landslide also affected more than 7,500 people from Metro Manila and nearby provinces north and south of the Philippine capital.

Marasigan said the victims were buried alive by landslides, pinned to death by a collapsed riprap and swept away in floods.

In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the tropical storm had moved out the Philippines.

The tropical storm dumped rains in many areas in the Philippine main Luzon Island since Monday night, triggering landslides and flooding in Metro Manila and many provinces.
