YANGON, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi cancelled her planned attendance at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to handle domestic affairs, Director-General of the State Counselor' Office U Zaw Htay said Wednesday.

Suu Kyi cancelled her UN trip as she was busy with the management of providing humanitarian aid to displaced people in northern Rakhine state, he told Xinhua.

She has to work for the security and stability of the region under terrorist threat while domestic protest over the terrorist attacks are also taking place, according to U Zaw Htay.

As President U Htin Kyaw is being hospitalized in Bangkok, the country needs a person to take lead in the management of important affairs at home, he added.

Instead, Vice President U Henry Van Thio will attend the UN General Assembly and speak on behalf of Myanmar on Sept. 20, he confirmed.

Suu Kyi will make a speech to the nation on Sept. 19.
