CHANGSHA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Police in central China's Hunan Province said Wednesday that they recently caught 34 suspects from five gangs that had allegedly carried out multiple tomb robberies.
On Sept. 26, 2016, police in Youxian County were informed that an ancient tomb group had been robbed.
According to archaeologists, the large group of tombs, located in Youxian, dates back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-25 A.D.)
Police in the city of Zhuzhou, which administers the county, organized a special investigation team.
During the investigation, police discovered five gangs who had allegedly robbed ten ancient tomb sites in five provinces, namely Hunan, Shandong, Hebei, Anhui and Henan.
Nine pieces of stolen cultural relics have been recovered.
