SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A huge quantity of arms and ammunition including 100 pieces of rocket propelled grenades and seven assault rifles which had been collected from militants were handed over to police in Shiberghan city on Wednesday, Jawzjan provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani said.

Confiscating weapons and disarming militants are essential for stabilizing peace and security in Jawzjan province, the official said.

Taliban and Islamic State (IS) groups are active in the relatively peaceful Jawzjan province. Both groups fight to expand territory and consolidate positions.
