RAMALLAH, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received Monday a letter bearing signatures of a million Palestinians, mostly students, to be delivered to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during their meeting next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The letter handed to Abbas by the head of wall resistance committee, Walid Assaf, during a meeting between them at the presidential headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah, calls to end Israeli occupation and to work for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Assaf told Xinhua following the meeting that the letter supports Abbas's forthcoming speech before the United Nations and calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The letter was prepared by a Palestinian youth group in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Commission Against Wall and Settlement.

Earlier last month, Guterres visited the Palestinian territories and Israel on his first visit since he took up his post to succeed Ban Ki-moon in January.

Guterres reaffirmed following his meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah in Ramallah, the UN commitment to a two-state solution for peace between Palestinians and Israelis and that settlement represents an obstacle to the two-state solution.
