AMMAN, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Iraq on Sunday discussed boosting trade exchange after the reopening of Trebeil border crossing between the two countries, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

During a meeting between Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Iraqi Minister of Industry Mohammad Soudani, the two stressed keenness to boost cooperation at various fronts.

The premier said the reopening of the crossing border with Iraq is the start of a new chapter in trade ties between the two countries.

The reopening of the borders is a key signal of the restoration of stability in Iraq, said Mulki.

The Iraqi official said Jordan has the priority in rebuilding of Iraq.

He added that Iraq and Jordan are looking into building joint industrial zones.

Last month, the Turaibil border crossing between Jordan and Iraq was officially reopened.

In 2015, Iraq officially closed the Turaibil border crossing with Jordan after the Islamic State group controlled some areas on the Iraqi side of the border.
