MADRID, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish government has asked on Friday the country's Constitutional Court to suspend the law of transition approved by Catalonia's regional parliament.
The law of transition, which was passed by the region's parliament on Thursday, would be executed in case "Yes" wins in the referendum of self-determination which is planned to be held on Oct.1.
The Spanish government spokesman, Inigo Mendez de Vigo, said in a press conference after the cabinet meeting that the government is a law enforcement authority and has to guarantee the rights of all citizens.
The government said they did not rule out any measure when it came to deal with the referendum, including the article 155 of the Spanish constitution which would suspend the autonomy of the region.
Meanwhile, Spain's State prosecutor Office gave Guardia Civil, National Police and Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) orders to stop the referendum.
On Thursday Spain's Constitutional Court suspended the law on the referendum that had been passed on Wednesday. The Court also warned the 947 local governments in Catalonia and 62 officials of the regional government, Generalitat, that they must not take part in the organization of the referendum.
