TIRANA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The assets of around 70 judges and prosecutors in Albania are about to undergo a fresh "scanning" in the framework of the vetting law implementation, the country's directorate of Immovable Properties Registration said Wednesday.

Blerina Doracaj, the newly-nominated chief registrar, has ordered the asset control process to be redone, especially for the real estate, sources said.

According to them, the assets of these judges and prosecutors will be reinvestigated because there are doubts that during the first investigation, some documents were missing while important data were hidden.

Doracaj said at a news conference that the Directorate of Property Registration would form a working group to complete the missing data from the judges' and prosecutors' dossiers.

On the other hand, she said that the working group would also investigate those responsible for the omissions and hiding of data within the directorate.

"Civil servants who have hidden data about the assets held by judges and prosecutors will be held criminally accountable, as well as those who have dragged along verification process and violated the legal deadlines," she told reporters.

The working group is expected to finish its work on Sept. 15.

Albania started in July the vetting process which foresees the scrutiny of around 800 judges and prosecutors' assets to verify if their wealth is justified.

The verification is based on the vetting law which was part of the justice reform in Albania.

Such law is aimed at vetting judges and prosecutors' professional conduct, assets or any potential ties to organized crime or illegal activities, and cleaning justice system from corrupt officials.

The implementation of vetting law is also considered as a key reform for the country's European Union integration. Enditem
