LUANDA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Georges Rebelo Chikoti traveled Wednesday to Maseru, Capital of Lesotho, to assess the situation that led to the assassination of the Lesotho army chief of staff, General Khoantle Motsomotso on Tuesday.

The Angolan minister is part of a mission of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to verify from September 7 to 10 the causes of the murder of General Khoantle Motsomotso as well as work on actions to avoid further deterioration of the situation in Lesotho.

Lesotho's army commander has been shot dead by rival military officers, according to official sources in the tiny southern African country.

Angola holds since last August the presidency of SADC Politics, Defense and Security Body.
