NEW DELHI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least one person has been killed and two others critically injured after a building collapsed in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata Tuesday, police said.

Several others are still feared trapped under the debris of the multi-storied building that caved in Kolkata's crowded Burrabazaar area.

"Three persons sustained serious injuries in the building collapse. They were all rushed to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries," a senior police official said.

Rescuers have reached the spot and are looking for anyone trapped under the debris, he said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the incident.

The latest building collapse in Kolkata took place after a five-storied building crumbled in Mumbai's Bhendi Bazaar area last week, claiming the lives of 33 people.

The building in Mumbai, which was over 100 years old and home to 11 families and a sweet shop on ground floor, actually collapsed after India's financial capital was lashed by heavy rains.
