Jiangsu collects third fencing gold medal at National Games

TIANJIN, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Jiangsu claimed its third fencing title after beating Guangdong 45-41 in the final of women's team sabre at the Chinese National Games here on Sunday.

Jiangsu bulit up a 10-4 lead before Guangdong's Zhang Xin scored 8-4 against Zhu Min to overturn the game 20-19 in the fourth round. Yang Hengyu overwhelmed Yu Xinting 5-0 in the sixth round, took Jiangsu to regain the lead 30-24 and never looked back. Tianjin edged Guizhou 45-43 in the bronze match.

"I didn't know what to do in some points of the final because of the nervousness, but my teammates hold my back with their encourage and cheers. I love them so much!" said Yang.

In men's team epee, Liaoning defeat Shandong in a thrilling final to win its first fencing gold medal in Tianjin.

It seemed that Shandong was close to the title when they led by 36-34 after eight rounds,but Dong Guotao of Liaoning tied the game 39-39 with 3 seconds left. Both team failed to score in the overtime and Liaoning won by the priority eventually. Jiangsu beat Beijing 16-15 to pocket the bronze medal.
