ISLAMABAD, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Rangers and police conducted intelligence based operations in two cities in the country's eastern province of Punjab and arrested 13 terrorism suspects in the operations, said the Pakistani military media wing on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation was carried out in Lahore, the capital city of the province, and apprehended six suspects.

The suspects were residing in the city without legal documents, said the ISPR, adding that a huge cache of arms and explosives were also recovered from the the arrested suspects' possessions.

In another operation, seven key facilitators of terrorists were arrested by Rangers and police in Punjab's Dera Ghazi Khan, the statement further added. The suspects were also involved in extortion and other criminal activities.

The operations are parts of the major offensive codenamed "Radd-ul-Fasaad," or reject discord in English, currently underway across the country. It was launched in February this year to "eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country" after over 100 people were killed in a series of terrorist attacks.
