BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,527 abandoned vehicles were towed away to scrap metal yards from areas under the jurisdiction of Bandar Seri Begawan(BSB) Municipal Department in four months.

According to local media on Saturday, the vehicles were removed as part of the ongoing nationwide environmental clean-up project which started from May this year.

Spearheaded by Brunei's Land Transport Department in association with relevant government agencies like municipal departments and district offices nationwide, Royal Brunei Police Force and Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, the vehicle removal operation aims to prevent vehicle owners from simply leaving their vehicles at workshops and public areas.

The BSB Municipal Department said that it will continue to conduct inspections in areas under its jurisdiction.
