NAIROBI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenya's major media outlets on Friday.

-- Kenyans on Friday are eagerly waiting for the verdict of the Supreme Court on presidential election petition challenging the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in Aug. 8 elections.

The seven-judges are to deliver the verdict by 6 p.m., according to the law. The judges can dismiss the petition altogether meaning President Kenyatta would have been validly elected or they can nullify his win sending Kenyans back to the ballot in two months. (Daily Nation)

-- The government has ordered nurses who have been on strike for close to three months seeking a pay rise to either return to work or be fired. Nurses who obey the order have been assured they would not be victimized. (The Standard)

-- Kenya on Friday would start issuing single electronic East African Community passports joining other countries in the region to facilitate movement of people. (Business Daily)

-- The African Union has asked Kenyans to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court that will be delivered today. The AU urged all political actors and stakeholders to desist from making irresponsible statements. (The Star) Enditem
