PARIS, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain right back Serge Aurier has joined Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year contract, the two clubs announced on Thursday.

The Cote d'Ivoire international will stay with the London club until 2022 and wear the number 24 jersey.

"This is a huge and exciting opportunity at a massive football club and I am determined to prove myself as a professional both on and off the pitch," said Aurier, who joined PSG from Toulouse in 2014.

"This is a fresh start for me and I will do everything to make the Spurs fanbase, which is huge and diverse, proud of me," he added.

Aurier has made 85 appearances in all competitions for PSG, scoring five goals and providing 15 assists. He won two Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, three French League Cups and three French Super Cups with Les Parisiens.

"Paris Saint-Germain thanks Serge for the fighting spirit he always showed in the red and blue shirt and wishes him all the very best for the new challenges that await him at his new club in London," said the capital club in a statement.

Aurier has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent days, but had met some obstacles in receiving his work permit due to a two-month prison sentence last May.

He was also rejected by the British authorities when he visited London for a Champions League road match against Arsenal last November.
