Man arrested outside Buckingham Palace charged with terror offence

LONDON, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A 26-year-old man was charged with terror offence Thursday after his arrest outside Buckingham Palace, London home of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Metropolitan Police in London said detectives from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command have now charged the man in connection with the incident on Constitution Hill on Friday, August 25.

Police named the man as Mohiussunnath Choudhury, from Luton in Bedfordshire, a county north of London. He has been charged with an offence under the 2006 Terrorism Act of engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention to commit an act or acts of terrorism.

Choudhury appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London later Friday.

Three London police officers were injured after a man brandished a sword more than a meter long last Friday outside Buckingham Palace. The man, now named as Choudhury,was arrested and has been held in police custody since the incident.

The Queen was not in residence at the time of the incident.
