BUDAPEST, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Japan and Mongolia each clinched a gold medal on the third day of the 2017 World Judo Championships here on Wednesday.
Japanese Soichi Hashimoto took the men's 73kg victory after overcoming Rustam Orujov from Azerbaijan, who won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Two bronze medals went to Changrim An from South Korea and to Odbayar Ganbaatar from Mongolia.
Hashimotos's achievements also include the gold medals in Ekaterinburg Grand Slam 2017, the Paris Grand Slam 2017, as well as the Masters 2016.
China's Sun Shuai got eliminated by Benjamin Axis from France in the first round, while the other Chinese athlete Saiyinjirigala placed 7th, after five fights. He lost his last fight against eventual bronze medalist Odbayar Ganbaatar.
In the women's 57kg category, Rio Olympic runner-up Sumiya Dorjsuren of Mongolia emerged the winner and Japan's Tsukasa Yoshida took silver, while two bronze medals went to Frenchwoman Helene Receveaux and Nekoda Smythe-Davis of Britain respectively.
China's Lu Tongjuan was eliminated by Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard of Canada in the second round.
