NAIROBI, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two-time Diamond League winner Jairus Kipchoge Birech and Olympic 3,000 meters steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto will lead a galaxy of Kenyan stars in the final race of the 3,000m steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels on Sept. 1.

Kipruto, who is leading in the chase for the Diamond trophy, however, has hinted he will try to attack the world record set by Saif Saaeed Shaheen.

That record almost came to shutters in 2011 when Beijing Olympic champion Brimin Kipruto narrowly missed the time of 7:53.63 which Shaheen a fellow Kenyan who switched allegiance to Qatar in 2003, achieved at the 2004 Golden League meet in Brussels.

Now the new, younger Kipruto (Conseslus) wants it to his name.

"Having won the Olympics and the world championships, I now have the course. I want to be a world record holder and the take the mantle from Shaheen and Ezekiel Kemboi. It is a way to become a legend," said Kipruto.

Other Kenyans in the race are Abraham Kibiwott, Benjamin Kigen, Amos Bett, Nicholas Kiptanui and Silas Birech. Another Kenyan Stanley Kiprotich will however be running under the USA flag.
