Profile: Brazilian President Michel Temer

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Michel Temer will pay a state visit to China and attend the 2017 BRICS summit to be held in China's southeastern coastal city of Xiamen from Aug. 31 to Sept. 5 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The following is a brief introduction to Temer.

Temer, born in the state of Sao Paulo in 1940, graduated from the Law School of the University of Sao Paulo in 1963 and completed a doctorate in public law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo.

From 1997 to 2010, he served as president of the Chamber of Deputies on three separate occasions. In January 2011, he began to serve as vice president and was re-elected in 2015.

Temer began to serve as president in August 2016; his term ends on Dec. 31, 2018.

He is married and has two sons and three daughters.

Temer visited China as vice president in November 2013.
