Japan still dominant on second day of World Judo Championships

BUDAPEST, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Japan was still dominant on the second day of the 2017 World Judo Championships, with their judokas winning the gold medals in both finals here on Tuesday.

Ai Shishime defeated her compatriot Natsumi Tsunoda in the final of the women's 52 kg category. Two bronze medals went to Natalia Kuziutina from Russia and to Erika Miranda from Brazil.

Shishime's achievements include the gold medals in Asian Championships 2016 and 2017, as well as in Grand Slam Tyumen 2016.

Japan also took the gold in the 66kg men's competition, thanks to the performance of Hifumi Abe, who already won the Paris Grand Slam 2017, the Grand Slam Tokyo 2016 and the Grand Slam Tyumen 2016.

The silver medal was won by Mikhail Puliaev from Russia, while two bronze medals went respectively to Tal Flicker from Israel and Vazha Margvelashvili from Georgia.

Wang Xin, representing China in the women's 52 kg category, was eliminated by Joana Ramos from Portugal. The other Chinese competitor, Ren Jiawen, in men's 66 kg category, triumphed over Jeremy Saywell from Malta, but was defeated by Ryan Vargas from the United States.

Japan won gold in both women's 48kg and men's 60kg categories on Monday.
