PARIS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday presented the keystones of his foreign policy to the annual Ambassadors' Conference, with combating Islamist terrorism topping the list.

"The fight against Islamist terrorism is the first priority of France's foreign policy; the security of the French people is the main purpose of our diplomacy," he said in a speech to 170 foreign ambassadors to France.

Macron said he wanted France to play a bigger role in resolving conflicts in the Middle East.

"The Islamic State is our enemy. Restoring peace and stability in Iraq and Syria is our priority," he stressed.

He also revealed the plan to host an international conference on combating terrorist financing in France at the beginning of next year.

"If we want to achieve results in fighting terrorism and its financing, we need to maintain ties with everyone and have a clear timetable and clearly defined priorities," he said.

Domestically, Macron said he plans to lift the state of emergency in France, which has been in place since the Paris terrorist attacks in 2015, which killed 130 people.
