UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday condemned the latest launch of a ballistic missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) "in violation of Security Council resolutions."
"The launch undermines regional security and stability and efforts to create space for dialogue," the Secretary-General's associate spokesperson Eri Kaneko said in a statement.
"The Secretary-General calls on the Government of the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations and work towards reopening communication channels," said Kaneko.
The UN chief remains in close contact with all parties concerned, she added.
The missile was reportedly fired around 5:58 a.m. Japanese time (GMT 2058 Monday) from the western coast of the DPRK towards a northeastern direction, and passed over Cape Erimo in northern Japan around 6:06 a.m. Japanese time (GMT 2106 Monday).
