WINDHOEK, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Environment Ministry nabbed six poachers suspected to have killed a rhino in the Klip river area in the Kunene region, in the northwest of the country.
The ministry on Monday in a statement said the rhino carcass was discovered on Aug. 25 and an operation was launched and two of the suspects were arrested immediately.
According to the ministry, another operation involving aerial patrols and strategic road blocks was initiated in the area and led to the arrest of four more suspects who are believed to have poached the rhino as they were found in possession with a pair of fresh rhino horns.
The environment ministry said the poachers are all Namibian and one of the suspects is a school teacher.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, the Ministry said, another black rhino carcass was discovered, suspected to have been poached in the Okozongoro farm in the Erongo region.
According to them, the Okozongoro is one of our rhino custodianship areas and at the moment no arrests have been made in this case.
With the latest incidents, the ministry said this brings the total of poached rhinos to 26 this year compared to 60 in 2016.
