KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A senior Taliban leader was killed in clashes with Afghan security forces in northern Kunduz province on Sunday, the provincial police chief said on Monday.
"The clash took place Sunday in Kharkara area of restive Chardara district. As a result Mullah Meraj known as Qassab (butcher) was killed and two of his armed men wounded," Abdul Hamid Hamidi told reporters.
Some hideouts of the militants and trenches close to the residential areas in the district have been destroyed, said the police chief.
Taliban militants, who are in control of parts of Chardara district, have not commented on the information.
