KAMPALA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his Equatorial Guinean counterpart Obiang Nguema called on Monday for political solutions to resolve conflicts and crises on the African continent.

The two leaders, according to a State House statement issued here, said the African Union (AU) and other regional organizations need support from the United Nations (U.N.) and the international community to foster peace, security and development for Africa.

They said political dialogue is necessary to diffuse emerging tensions in various regions around the globe, and concerted efforts should be made to fight terrorism.

Museveni, who has just completed his four-day state visit to Equatorial Guinea, commended the country for its priorities selected for its tenure at the U.N. Security Council as a non-permanent member for the period of 2018 to 2019.

Among the priorities are peaceful resolution of armed conflicts, reform of the U.N. Security Council, combating terrorism and trans-national crime, and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the AU's Agenda 2063.
