SINGAPORE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued a writ of election and the Nomination Day for presidential election will be on Sept. 13, the Elections Department announced on Monday.
If more than one candidate stands nominated on the Nomination Day, Sep. 23 will be declared as Polling Day, said the authority.
If there is only one eligible candidate, he or she will start the presidential term on the working day after Nomination Day.
By now, there are three potential candidates who have declared to contest the election. They are businessman Mohamed Salleh Marican, Bourbon Offshore Asia Pacific chairman Farid Khan and former Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob.
The new president will be Singapore's second Malay president.
