Civil service personnel flee terrorist attacks in Myanmar's northern state

YANGON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- About 500 civil service personnel and those from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have fled terrorist attacks in Maungtaw in Myanmar's northern Rakhine state to the capital of Sittway following days of renewed violence, the local daily Voice reported Monday.

Some 400 basic education schools have also been indefinitely closed by the state government, local sources was quoted as saying.

Rakhine state government officials said security in the conflict-torn areas including villages of local ethnic minority have been tightened by the military.

According to the report, about 4,000 local Rakhine ethnic people have moved to Sittway in three days following extremist terrorists' attack on the security forces and police outposts since last Friday.

Security personnel are carrying out area clearance operations as civilians are being evacuated to safer places.

Hundreds of extremist terrorists launched renewed attacks on security forces and 30 police outposts in northern Rakhine in the early hours on Friday, killing 12 security personnel and one immigration officer.

A total of 77 bodies of the terrorists have been seized with two captured alive so far .

The violence continued in the following days.

Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities have declared the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) as extremist terrorist groups involved in the attacks.
