Tokyo stocks open lower on Wall Streets weak tone, yens rise

TOKYO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower on Thursday tracking losses on Wall Street overnight, while investor sentiment was dented by the yens appreciation against the U.S. dollar and concerns for the future course of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 43.81 points, or 0.23 percent, from Wednesday to 19,390.83.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 2.11 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,597.94.

Iron and steel, air transportation and securities-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes of trade.
