MINSK, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine reached an agreement on starting a ceasefire from August 25, Martin Sajdik, the OSCE's special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, told local media on Wednesday.

The Contact Group on Ukraine agreed on a "school truce" starting from August 25 due to the beginning of the academic year in Donbas, Sajdik said.

Donbas is located in the eastern part of Ukraine and witnessed a war since 2014 between the government troops and the separatist forces.

The leaders of the Normandy Four, or Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, which was formed to resolve the situation in the East of Ukraine, expressed the hope that such a ceasefire will lead to a steady improvement in the region's security situation and bring benefits for schoolchildren and the entire civilian population of Donbas.

Sajdik said there was no progress yet on the issue of prisoner exchange in Donbas, and the parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine continued discussing the separation of forces and assets.

The next session of the representatives of Contact Group on Ukraine will take place on September 6.

The trilateral contact group is a group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe that was formed as means to facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the war in the Donbas region.
