BERLIN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 44 people were injured and 6 in serious conditions when a bus carrying harvest workers tipped to the right in the north-western German state of Lower Saxony on Wednesday.

Local media Osnabruecker Zeitung quoted the police as saying that the driver had lost control of the vehicle on a roundabout in the town of Bohmte. The bus was carrying some 50 people, mostly Romanian women who had been hired to harvest strawberries.

Some police officers, fire brigades and rescue vehicles and helicopters as well were deployed to the accident site for rescue.

Drivers currently have to expect significant traffic jam, as the B51 road is currently completely blocked, and diversions are arranged, according to the police.

The traffic control will continue until about 4:00 p.m., police added.
