LONDON, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.86 percent, or 62.86 points, to close at 7,381.74 points.
Tesco, a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer, soared 4.10 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Shire and Rio Tinto increased by 3.10 percent and 2.43 percent respectively.
Provident Financial, a British sub-prime lender, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 66.22 percent. Admiral Group, a motor insurance company, dropped 1.10 percent while ITV, a British television network, fell 0.72 percent. Enditem
