MADRID, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The four surviving members of the 12-man terrorist cell responsible for last week's attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils appeared at the Spanish National High Court here on Tuesday.

The four suspects arrived at the court at around 8:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT) Tuesday after spending Monday night in the cells of the Civil Guard Headquarters in the town of Tres Cantos just north of Madrid.

The quartet face questions from High Court Judge Fernando Andreu, and are almost certain to be remanded in custody awaiting trial.

The four suspected terrorists are Mohamed Houli Chemal, who was at a house in Alcanar where the group was believed to be preparing a bigger terrorist attack.

The other three, named Dris Oukbar, Mohammed Alla and Salh Karib, were arrested in the town of Ripoll, to the north of Barcelona, where the majority of the cell were from.

Five other members of the terrorist cell were shot dead by police in Cambrils, two died in a gas explosion in Alcanar, and Younes Abouyaaqoub, the suspected driver of Thursday's deadly Barcelona van, was shot and killed by police close to the town of Subirats on Monday afternoon.

Thirteen people were killed and about 120 others were injured on Thursday afternoon in the popular Las Ramblas area of Barcelona when a white van zigzagged at high speed down the busy avenue packed with tourists.

Pau Perez, a 35-year-old international aid worker, was murdered around an hour later several kilometers from that scene.

On early Friday, another woman was killed when five people jumped out of a car and began attacking people at random on the seaside promenade in Cambrils, a town south of Barcelona.
