MOSCOW, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The large-scale fire that broke out on Monday in Russia's southern city of Rovstov-on-Don has damaged more than 100 buildings, local media reported.

"According to the latest reports, as many as 107 buildings, including 83 houses, have been damaged," regional emergency service was quoted by TASS news agency as saying on Monday.

It added that a federal-level emergency state had been declared in the Rostov region.

There was no report of casualties. About 600 people have been evacuated. A total of 45 people asked for medical assistance, and seven of them were sent to hospital.

The local government has deployed more 1,200 people to put out the fire. Although strong gusty winds and high density housing hampered the operation, the fire has been fully contained, TASS reported.
