YANGON, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is planning to establish a special care center for children with autism in Mawlamyine town of southeastern Mon state early next year, an official report said Tuesday.

At least dozens of children are suffering from autism in the town and the move is aimed at improving the lives of such children, organizer of the Myanmar Autism Association was quoted as saying.

With fund contributed by local residents, the center facility will include trained autism and child development experts, said the father of an autistic child, welcoming the establishment of the training center.

According to international research, one in 68 children worldwide has an autism spectrum disorder and 67 million people live with autism globally.

Autism, a neuro development disorder, usually becomes evident during childhood and includes impaired communication with restricted and repetitive behavior.
