BERLIN, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, the new air harbor for the German capital, might postpone its opening date for another time and is reported by German media on Monday that it is not to be opened before autumn 2019.

"The responsible people now consider the autumn 2019 as the opening date," German media the "Tagesspiegel" cited internal documents.

However, the documents show that this deadline is not guaranteed either due to numerous problems at the new airport.

The delay for another year would cause additional costs of at least 405 million euros (477 million U.S. dollars), which has not yet been taken into account, according to the report.

Engelbert Luetke Daldrup, the fourth managing director of the new airport, is about to announce a definite opening date by the end of this year. He had aimed to put the airport into operation in 2018.

The airport, also known as Willy Brandt Airport, started its construction in September 2006 and was firstly scheduled to open in October 2011.

The date, however, was then postponed many times for construction reasons, technical problems as well as wrong planning.
