JAKARTA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has dispatched ships and a helicopter to join the search and rescue operation after U.S. Navy warship John S. McCain collided with a cargo vessel near the Strait of Malacca, Indonesian Foreign Minister said here on Monday.
According to the U.S. Navy the incident left five sailors injured and ten others missing while the destroyer was transiting to a regular port visit in Singapore.
"I have asked Navy chief of staff to ask about our assistance, because the search operation is underway," Marsudi said at the State Palace.
The minister revealed that Indonesia deployed two navy ships and one helicopter in the operation after the incident in waters east of Singapore.
