ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani police has recovered seven cops kidnapped a day earlier in the country's eastern Punjab Province on Monday, local Urdu media reported.

Deputy Superintendent Police of Rojhan region Ramiz Bokhari said that the cops conducted a search operation in the area in Punjab to recover the abductees in the wee hours of the day.

The officer said that the policemen were kidnapped by dacoits during a boat patrol in the Indus river on Sunday, adding that the kidnappers took the policemen to their hideouts located at an ait in the river.

Local police cordoned off a section of the river on Monday and recovered the abductees who were tied with the trees at the ait.

Bokhari said that the dacoits have escaped by swimming through the river, taking advantage of the darkness. A search operation to catch the dacoits is underway in the area.
