DAMASCUS, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Syrian army units on Saturday took over areas in western Qalamoun in Rif Dimashq, the Syrian news agency SANA reported.
Army units fully controlled hills and heights in Harf Wadi Farah, Ra's Shabet al Magharah, Qurnet Shmais Dawar Khanjar, Shabet al Souqi and other areas after carrying out intensive operations targeting Islamic State (IS) terrorists, the report said.
The army operations destroyed a number of IS fortifications, killing and injuring a number of the terrorists, SANA said.
Meanwhile, the army units in cooperation with the Syrian Air Force conducted intensive strikes against gatherings and positions of IS terrorists in Deir Ezzor province, SANA added.
A number of IS terrorists, including Iraqi terrorist Ahmed al Obaidi, were killed in the clashes in addition to destroying their arms and equipment, SANA further said.
