ANKARA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Saturday detained five Islamic State (IS) suspects in the southern province of Hatay, local media reported.

Police and intelligence units launched a joint operation in the Iskenderun-Antakya highway and stopped a vehicle, according to Anadolu Agency.

Four suspects inside the vehicle surrendered to the police, but the other one attempted to attack security units, and was "neutralized" after being shot in the foot.

Three of the suspects were Turkish-origin while the other two were Syrian origin, the report said.

The road meanwhile was briefly blocked to traffic during the operation.

Bomb disposal experts conducted searches inside the vehicle but did not find any explosive material.
