Every 10 Bruneian students have a teacher: statistics

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- There were 10 students to a teacher across schools in Brunei last year, the 2016 Education Statistics and Indicators Handbook from Brunei's Ministry of Education (MoE) showed.

According to local media, the recently released statistics showed that last year saw an average of 443 students and 44 teachers per school. As of last year, the number of schools stood at 252 in Brunei, while the number of students totaled 111,698 and teachers 10,985.

Tertiary and vocational education had increased to 13 institutions, compared to 12 in 2015, while the number of higher institutions remained at seven institutions for both 2016 and 2015.

As of 2015, the total literacy rate stood at 98 percent, with the literacy rate for males being at 98.6 percent and females at 97.4 percent.
