JAKARTA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 500 domestic and foreign athletes were expected to take part in Rhino Cross Triathlon (Rhino X-Tri), a sport tourism competition, slated for September 24 in Indonesia's Banten province destination of Tanjung Lesung, an official said.

The triathlon competition was part of events featured in Tanjung Lesung Festival scheduled from Sept. 22 to 24, aimed at promoting local tourism which is part of 10 new destinations across the country developed by the Indonesian government.

A Banten provincial official said that so far foreign athletes confirmed to take part in the event were from the United States, Sweden and Denmark.

Banten West Java Tourism Development Managing Director Rully Lasahido said that the upcoming triathlon event would feature swimming, biking and running competitions.

"Different from the other triathlons that uses road bike in the bike race, Rhino Cross Triathlon uses mountain bike. It would give particular challenges for the athletes vying in the event," Rully said.

He added the athletes would witness the beauty of nature during the competition as they have to swim in adorable beach like the ones in Bali, biking alongside mangrove forests and run across paddy terraces in Tanjung Lesung.
