HO CHI MINH CITY, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A 35-year-old man from Vietnam's southern Can Tho city has been detained for illegally possessing 30 military-grade guns, mostly rifles, and over 2,000 bullets of different kinds, the municipal police said Friday.

Searching the house and car of the man from the city's Binh Thuy district, the municipal police found two guns and 174 bullets.

The police then searched six other locations in the southern provinces of Soc Trang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh, further confiscating the man's 28 guns, 1,855 bullets, two cars, nine mobile phones, eight knives, five sets of nunchaku, and many accessories for guns such as silencers and signs.

The man confessed that he secretly kept the weapons to gradually sell them to big-game hunters.

Local police are probing into the source's weapons and the man's accomplices.
