PARIS, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Paris prosecutor's office on Friday opened an anti-terrorism investigation following Spain's double attacks, which left 14 dead and more than 130 wounded, including 26 French.

The investigation is routine when French people are among victims of terrorist attacks abroad, according to French media, quoting the prosecutor's office as saying.

The probe was opened for "assassination attempts in relation to a terrorist undertaking, entrusted to the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police, (DCPJ)", it said.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed earlier on Friday morning that 26 French were wounded, including 11 in serious condition in the two separate attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

It was the worst attack in Spain since March 2004, when Islamist militants placed bombs on commuter trains in Madrid, killing 191 people and wounding more than 1,800 others.
