DHAKA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- As the holy Eid-ul-Azha is drawing near, Bangladesh begun selling advanced train and bus tickets Friday to ensure a hassle-free journey for millions of people who will flock home to celebrate one of the biggest religious festivals with their relatives.

Like previous occasions, several million people are expected to leave the capital city in the coming days braving every conceivable discomfort on creaky and congested transport.

Bangladeshis on or around Sept. 2 will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, or the festival of animal sacrifice, which is also to be celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

On Friday morning, thousands were seen to throng Dhaka's central Kamalapur Railway Station and major bus terminals to buy advance tickets.

Kamalapur Railway's Station Manager Sitangshu Chakraborty told journalists that some 22,496 tickets for Aug. 27 will be sold alone on Friday.

Thousands of holidaymakers were also seen to crowd ticket counters at different bus terminals for the advance tickets Friday.

Many ticket seekers even started forming queues the night before the counters opened.

Zainal Abedin, a senior official of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), said launch operators will start sale of advance tickets for cabins from Aug. 20 and special launch services will start from Aug. 28.

State-owned transport bodies have started special services to ply on different inter-district routes in addition to the regular services to meet the demand of the home-bound city dwellers.

To make the travel of the home-bound passengers easy, officials said additional forces have been deployed in Dhaka streets.
