PARIS, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Some 26 French people were wounded, at least eleven of them in serious condition, during the attack Thursday in the Spanish city of Barcelona, French Foreign Minister Jeans-Yves Le Drian announced Friday morning in a statement.

The crisis center in the ministry, which was established in 2008 to monitor risks and threats for French national living abroad, remains open and people with relevant information can call the center, the minister said.

Condemning the attack "in the strongest terms," the French minister said he will travel to Barcelona Friday to visit the French victims of this "cowardly act" and to provide support for the Spanish government and people.

A van plowed into crowds of tourists in one of Barcelona's busiest thoroughfares Thursday, leaving at least 13 people dead and over 100 others injured

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
