TEHRAN, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's capital Tehran will host a major handwoven carpet show next week, Tehran Times daily reported on Thursday.

The 26th Iran Handmade Carpet Exhibition will kick off on August 23 at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds and will last for one week.

A total of 730 carpet producers will participate in the exhibition to introduce carpets from Iran's major cities and rural areas, as well as nomadic rugs and a patchwork of the antique products.

Several craft workshops for designing, spinning, weaving, conservation and washing have been planned on the sidelines of the event, said Hamid Kargar, the head of Iran's National Carpet Center.

"Iran exported 89 million U.S. dollars of handwoven carpets during the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21- July 22, 2017), showing an increase of 3.7 percent in terms of value," Kargar was quoted as saying.
